The arrested persons included two brothers Zaid and Owaid Qureshi and their employee Farooq, said police which raided the meat shop in Billauchpura locality of Bazarkhala area early on Friday morning.

Cops also claimed to have recovered 4.5 quintal of cattle flesh from their possession.

Singh claimed the family was running the meat shop in the locality for last many years and was secretly involved in cow slaughtering too.

“The arrested duo has revealed that they often used to do cow slaughtering on the outskirts of Lucknow and later bring it here for the sale. But, on Thursday night, they had slaughtered the cattle at the shop and was planning to sell it to select customers to whom they had earlier too supplied the beef,” said the inspector.

The inspector claimed that while prima facie the meat looked that of cow, a team of Lucknow Municipal Corporation has been handed over the sample to confirm the same.

An FIR under prohibition of cow slaughter act has been lodged against the accused and efforts are on to arrest the person who escaped during the raid, added the inspector.
