Kenyan captain Steve Tikolo on Friday urged his players to play to their potential as he fancied his team's chances against the Indians in their Champions Trophy opener on Saturday.

"We can beat any side if we play to our potential. We must try to play to our potential and don't worry about the opposition -- that is what we must try to do," Tikolo said.

The Kenyan captain admitted that the absence of senior player Maurice Odumbe, who is serving a five-year ban for his alleged involvement in match-fixing, has affected his team's balance. "We are going to miss him as a player."

Tikolo hit out at the International Cricket Council (ICC) for not allowing Kenya to play more One-Day Internationals.

"I think our status as a one-day team is pretty useless if we are not going to get enough matches," he said.

Kenya has not played a game since April 2003 and it is a poor reflection for a team which reached the semi-finals of the 2003 World Cup.
