Tinsukia ASP escapes grenade attack by ULFA

Tinsukia Additional Superintendent of Police, Bijoy Kuligana on Thursday escaped a hand granade attack by ULFA terrorists which injured five others, including three policemen, in Doomdooma town of Tinsukia district.

Police said that around 7.15 pm, two ultras threw the explosive at the police officer and his escort party as he was entering Doomdooma police station.
Though the grenade failed to hit the ASP and his escort vehicle, police said, it exploded injuring five, including three policemen.

In a simultaneous attack, two other motorcycle borne ULFA terrorists hurled a hand grenade at Namrup Police station in Dibrugarh district, but none was injured.

Police said the grenade fell outside the police station hitting its compound wall.
Before fleeing the terrorists fired six rounds at the police station from where the securitymen also retaliated.

During search operation the police recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) with batteries and wires fixed on a bamboo pole near the police station.
