Borgohain alias Ansuman Bora, a self-styled ‘sergeant major’ of the ULFA, was apprehended early this morning by a joint police and army team as he was attempting to cross over to Sibsagar district through Dilli river at Mamor Ali in Dibrugarh.

Sobil, who had joined the ULFA in 1995, had sneaked in from the joint ULFA-NSCN camps in Nagaland, police said.

The police and troops of the 44 Field Regiment had launched a joint operation last week to apprehend him as there were inputs about movement of ULFA cadres to disrupt the polls.

An AK-56 rifle of M-22 series with 44 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from Sobil, the sources said.

Elections to 11 Lok Sabha seats in Assam will be held in the second phase on Thursday.
