A TRIBAL girl was married to one person one but was forced to live with two others. And now she is missing. The parents are running pillar to locate her. The girl’s in-laws have threatened the parents with dire consequences if they complained to police.
Punni, a resident of village Samnapur, some 55 km from district headquarter under the Deori police station, talking to Hindustan Times, said that he had arranged marriage of his daughter Phool Bai with Bablu Singh Pal, a resident of village Karyari of district Hameerpur of Uttar Pradesh, a year back. The marriage proposal was brought by the local community member Chukhai, a resident of village Prasiya. Chukhai said that a Thakur family of UP wanted a girl for marriage.
He promised better living for the girl. Punni married his daughter without visiting the in-laws’ house. Chukhai was the only man who had performed the pre-marriage rituals at the house of in-laws. He did not give any chance to Punni to visit village Karyari.
After a week, when Punni went to bring back the girl, the in-laws told him that according to their rituals they are not permitted to send back the daughter-in-law for one year.
Again after a few months in January this year, when he went to take the girl back, the family members told him that the girl had been sent back to her house and she is not there. Punni alleges that during his stay when he interacted with the in-laws’ neighbours, they informed him that the girl was given her husband’s maternal uncle, Gyarsi Singh and his relative Pappu Singh.
Both raped the helpless girl for a long time. After some time, Gyarsi again sold the girl to an unknown man.
