Two explosions occurred within span of minutes at about 1PM in the court grounds, Senior Superintendent Shalab Mather, senior superintendent of Police (SSP), Kanpur, said.

The SSP said strings and materials used for making fire-crackers were recovered from the area after police rushed to the court with sniffer dogs and forensic team on receiving information about the incident.

Mathur said that the incident appears to be a work of mischief, and it is suspected that since the Lawyers' Association elections are to be held on Thursday, the intention may have been to cause panic with the fireworks.

The area around the court is being checked thoroughly for further explosives, Mathur said.
