The banned United Liberation Front of Asom (Ulfa) triggered several blasts in the state on the eve of Republic Day. Three persons, including an Ulfa activist, were killed in Thursday's incidents of violence. The Ulfa, supported by three other northeastern militant outfits, have called for a boycott of Friday’s Republic Day celebration.

The Tinsukia police said a suspected Ulfa activist was killed in an explosion at Amtol near Borhapjan under the Doomdooma police station. The activist was allegedly carrying the bomb on a bicycle.
In the second blast at 6.30 p.m, one person was killed and five injured.
