An uneasy calm prevails in Baghara where members belonging to two communities clashed Thursday evening resulting in the death of one person who was shot dead.

The seriousness of the situation can be gauged from the fact that people belonging to one community ransacked and looted some of the houses of the other community in a bid to create terror. And what usually happens in the aftermath of such situations is visible in this sensitive area .

Cops could fathom the seriousness of the situation only after the worst happened. They have now deployed two platoons of PAC, one platoon RAF, 20 armed constables, four station officers, two CO's, and one ACM. Teams have been sent to arrest the four main absconding accused and the licensed weapon used in the killing has also been identified. Police has started process to get the arms licence of the killer cancelled. This incident along with another in Chakia speaks volumes of the hollowness of police officials' claim to deploy their men in large numbers to contain communal flare-up and violence during the two-day Holi revelry.

Had the cops been alert the situation in Baghara would have been easily nipped in the bud, say residents of the area who had even informed the police control room much before the situation went out of hands. On their part cops paid no heed to the distress calls made by residents and the worse happened.

On its part the Colonelganj police in whose jurisdiction the incident took place reportedly reached the scene of occurrence much after the Shivkuti police had already made its presence felt. The fact that people of one community as if were ready to strike terror is evident from the sequence of events.

Sources said youngmen belonging to one community were dancing to the tune of music last evening when they spotted one Maqsood trying to kill a bird with his gun. When some of them objected Maqsood started shouting as if he had been attacked. After this he ran inside the colony shouting on top of his voice. Soon a large number of his supporters collected and attacked the youngsters with weapons and blunt objects. One Surendra who fell down while others were running away after seeing the crowd was attacked and killed.Police said they were hounding four persons who have been identified.

Earlier on Thursday people belonging to two communities had clashed with each other in Chakia over the issue of eve-teasing. As a result brickbats were hurled at each other and bombs exploded to create panic. Cops of several police stations including Dhumanganj, Khuldabad, and Kotwali reached the place to take charge of the situation. Police, however, failed to nab the person who had sullied the situation.
