Unfair reading
Apropos of Khushwant Singh?s column Free, but not fair (Feb. 18), I was amazed at the writer?s assessment of Indira Gandhi?s leadership made in his review of B.N. Tandon?s book PMO Diary II.
Apropos of Khushwant Singh’s column Free, but not fair (Feb. 18), I was amazed at the writer’s assessment of Indira Gandhi’s leadership made in his review of B.N. Tandon’s book PMO Diary II. This is even more surprising since I know how close Singh was to Amteshwar Anand and her family, and how he used this association to try and secure a Congress nomination for the Rajya Sabha seat from Maharashtra — an unsuccessful endeavour despite his requesting Mrs Gandhi’s help. Singh has referred to Tandon’s phrase of ‘palace guards’ in which he has included my name. His insinuation is unfounded, biased and baseless.

Coming to Tandon, he had pleaded for an assignment after Mrs Gandhi returned to power. His book, therefore, exposes his duplicity.

On equal terms
Apropos of Aditya Sinha’s They need to talk (Feb. 24), the Centre should take a stand and not allow jehadis to demoralise Kashmiris. Kashmiri leaders must reciprocate the PM’s zeal in calling for a round table.

Reinvestigate the case
This refers to the report Cops weakened Jessica case (February 24). The acquittal of the accused and conspirators in the Jessica Lall case shows how criminals are protected by politicians in our country. Can the CJI not ask the CBI to reinvestigate the case in public interest?

Fight for justice
It is a matter of shame that a person is sentenced to jail and fined for killing blackbuck while the killers of Jessica Lall are acquitted. Thanks to activists, animals have become more important than human beings. Do we need activists to fight for the human also?

Lack of will, not law
The editorial A hostile law (February 24) says that the judges could not have done anything else. At least they could have asked the accused and the witnesses who turned hostile to explain why they were changing their stand after having stated something else in the FIRs. We don’t need more laws but an honest judiciary.
