An unidentified militant was killed in an encounter with police commandos in interior Thoubal district of Manipur, police said on Tuesday.
An unidentified militant was killed in an encounter with police commandos in interior Thoubal district of Manipur, police said on Tuesday.
Sources said commandos, attached to Thoubal police station, raided Thoubal Tousem Lamkhai area in the district on Monday evening following reports that some militants were roaming in the area.
As they stepped up search operation, the commandos were fired upon by the militants, sources said adding that in the ensuing encounter a militant was killed while some others escaped to nearby hills.
One 9mm pistol along with some live rounds was recovered from the spot, about 35 Kms south-east of Imphal, sources said adding that!the body has been sent to Regional Institute of Medical Science and Hospital in Imphal for post mortem.
Over 85 persons were so far killed in militancy-related crimes in Manipur this year.
