Pramod Kumar, sub divisional magistrate of Dharchula, said that workers who were working on the road were killed after the rolling vehicle fell over them and went down into a 600-meter gorge.

The toll may go up, Kumar added.

According to reports, the jeep ferrying 11 passengers was coming towards Pithoragath district headquarter from a village near Dharchula, about 500km from state capital Dehradun.

Officials said that the driver seemed to have lost control over the vehicle.

The driver, who was seriously injured, has been admitted to a local hospital.
