BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu on Monday escaped unhurt when the driver of his car applied brakes suddenly to try avoid hitting a man who was crossing the road at Kalapet near Pondicherry.

Police said Naidu did not suffer any injury. The BJP leader's car hit the man, who fractured his right leg, they said.
Naidu was coming from Chennai to Pondicherry to address a workers meeting when the incident occurred.
The BJP leader took the injured person in his car and got him admitted to a nearby hospital, after which he left for Pondicherry, police said.
