This was stated by BJP general secretary Pramod Mahajan while talking to newsmen. He was in the city to inaugurate a block of Saraswati Balika Vidya Mandir Inter School.

Replying to a query related to growing differences between the BJP and the VHP and sants who have been the popular face of the party, Mahajan said, “BJP has its own identity and is not dependent on the VHP and sants to project itself.”

“Everyone is free to choose own course of action and I cannot figure out the reasons behind the so called annoyance of the VHP and sants,” stated Mahajan.
While replying to a question on the expulsion of Uma Bharti and its adverse impact on the BJP, Mahajan initially tried to shelve the question by replying that the Uma Bharti chapter was now closed.

However, after repeated questions from scribes on the Uma Bharti issue, Mahajan said, The BJP is sea and if a glass of water is taken away from the sea it will not make any difference.”

The BJP was an ideology based party and the exit of Uma Bharti from the party would have no fallout on the party, asserted Mahajan.

Elaborating on the issue, Mahajan said, “If Pramod Mahajan leaves the party then Pramod Mahajan will be the sufferer and not the BJP.”

When Mahajan was reminded about Kalyan Singh’s oft- repeated heaps of praise showered on Uma Bharti, Mahajan said, “It’s Kalyan Singh’s own view point.”

Mahajan also ruled out any difference of opinion in the BJP on the expulsion of Uma Bharti from the party and stressed that media was more concerned on the issue than the BJP.

Answering a query on the political turmoil in his home state Maharashtra generated by the exit of Raj Thackrey from the Shiv Sena, Mahajan tried to play down the incident as an internal matter of the party.

“Every party has to confront such situations and there is no bifurcation in the Shiv Sena as only Raj Thackrey has left the party,” stressed Mahajan.

On the question of the BJP’s association in future either with the Shiv Sena or with Raj Thackrey, Mahajan said, “The BJP’s coalition with the Shiv Sena is 25 years’ old and is one of the oldest coalitions in the country.”

In future also the BJP would be associated with Bal Thackrey’s Shiv Sena, asserted Mahajan.
