The suicide ‘threat’ from the girl, who was gang-raped by six of her teachers in the Patan PTC College for nearly five months, is an indication that her father has probably succumbed to the monetary allurement and political pressures brought upon him ever since the sex scandal came to light in February this year.

All the six accused have been arrested and the trial in the Patan local court is scheduled to begin on July 7.

Ironically, the suicide ‘threat’ from the Dalit girl comes just two days after her first year results showed that she has passed with over 80 per cent marks.

The suicide note, which was discovered by the girl’s hostel roommate who brought it to the notice of the local NGO Navsarjan, says that her father is ‘interested only in money’ but she was determined to punish her tormentors. The NGO has taken up the cudgels on behalf of her in the midst of all kinds of pressures to close the case.
