This has reference to KK Paul’s article Her eyes have it (February 2). Giving a Padma Bhushan to Waheeda Rehman (seen above with Dev Anand in Guide) in 2011 is too little, too late. Rehman proved her acting talent in movies like Teesri Kasam, Chaudhvin ka Chand and Ram aur Shyam. This, coupled with her flair for dancing made her win the best actress award for Guide. Rehman proved with her performance in Rang de Basanti that good actors do not have a short shelf life.

More than meets the headlines
Rajdeep Sardesai’s article Constitutional crisis (Beyond the Bite, January 28) reflects the true state of the nation. Though his evaluation of the five news stories on the eve of Republic Day is praiseworthy, his analysis of Utsav Sharma’s attack on Rajesh Talwar lacks deeper understanding. The attack reflects the mismanagement of the health sector, which has failed to cure people suffering from psychological disorders.

I disagree with Rajdeep Sardesai’s views and support Utsav Sharma’s attack on Aarushi Talwar’s father. It hurts to see criminals and corrupt officials walk freely and the common man paying the price for their crimes.

Uncle Sam needs a makeover
Mohamed ElBaradei in his article Talk like an Egyptian (February 1) correctly states that America must jettison realpolitik, especially at a time when political order in many nations is changing. It is high time that the US abandoned its insensitive ways of dealing with other nations, especially with Islamic States.
