Of the 71 reservoirs in the country, at least in 48 this year's storage is 80 per cent or less than the average of previous 10 years.

The combined storage capacity of these reservoirs at the beginning of the monsoon, as on June 27, was 11 per cent of their designed capacity and is at present 12 per cent of the designed capacity, according to an official release.
The present storage is 90 per cent of last year's storage and 64 per cent of last 10 years' average storage during the same period.
The basin wise storage position is better than average of previous 10 years in Indus and Tapi and 80 per cent or more than average of previous 10 years in Narmada.
The basinwise storage position is less than 80 per cent of average of previous 10 years in Ganga, Mahi, Sabarmati, Godavari, Krishna, Mahanadi, Cauvery and neighbouring east flowing rivers and west flowing rivers of South, the release said.
