IN A sensational incident, a 36-year-old man allegedly stabbed a woman of his neighbourhood to death in broad daylight in Nariyalkheda under the Gautam Nagar police station area on Tuesday.
According to eyewitnesses, Renu Gupta, 21, resident of Sharda Nagar, was stabbed to death when she was returning from temple today morning. The prime suspect Nathan Singh Nathu Singh, inflicted half-a-dozen stabs on her before he fled the spot.
It is suspected that Singh was in love with the woman though the victim’s mother had tied ‘rakhi’ to him in the past. Singh is absconding and it could not be ascertained what exactly provoked him to kill the woman.
Police said Renu was returning from the temple when Singh all of a sudden grabbed her and attacked with a knife repeatedly in the chest and abdomen. She collapsed and lay in a pool of blood on the street.
By the time the residents and by-standers could react, the attacker fled the spot. The victim was later admitted to hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead. Renu was the only daughter of her parents and had appeared in XII exam this year.
Panic struck the entire locality due to the sensational murder. The traders shut shops in the area to protest the killing.
Nathan Singh alias Nathu, a native of Vidisha, was quite close to the deceased’s family. Though Renu’s mother tied ‘rakhi’ to him, he had been stopped from entering the house six months back as the family members began to suspect his intentions and felt that he was eyeing Renu.
The accused was working for a contractor lately. A love letter has been recovered from Nathu Singh’s house. The accused is a divorcee. The hunt is on to nab him.
