UP Assembly elections may still be far away but CM Mulayam Singh Yadav is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that his party makes a come-back once again by having as many men of his caste as possible in police force, say cops on condition of anonymity. And this is being done in a calculated manner by recruiting as many Yadavas in the police service as possible so that they may help win elections. About 23 per cent Yadavas out of 271 candidates have already been recruited as constables in the police from Fatehpur district which was made the centre this time.
This percentage is being termed as quite low in comparison to other districts where from 32 to 36 per cent Yadavas have been selected as constables.
While this feat was achieved only a few days ago there's a move to take in more Yadavas at the expense of other castes soon. This second phase will be completed from Kaushambi and Pratapgarh districts within a month, said a police officer on condition of anonymity.
There's a move to recruit 6500 constables in the State in the second phase. Out of this 400 persons will be selected from Kaushambi and Pratapgarh districts, informed a police officer on condition of anonymity.
Such has been the push for Yadavas from the top that only eight candidates from the upper caste were selected from Kanpur Dehat during the recently concluded recruitment for constables in the police force.
The remaining lot (figures for which were not readily available) were either Yadav or Muslim. This attitude of the government has generated a lot of resentment in the youths of other castes and they are feeling cheated.
Sources said, many of them have started preparations for filing writ petitions in the High Court. While several senior police officers have also not liked this method of recruiting people belonging to a particular caste but they find themselves helpless because of obvious reasons, say sources.
Moreover out of 39 police stations in the district 12 are already under the charge of station officers hailing from Yadav clan. Half a dozen others are in the hands of Bhumihars who too blindly support Mulayam.
