Younis Khan

india Updated: Mar 07, 2005 22:25 IST

Date of Birth: 29 November 1977, Mardan
Test Debut: Against Sri Lanka at Rawalpindi in 1999/00
ODI Debut: Against Sri Lanka at Karachi in 1999/00
 Bats: Right Hand Bat
 Bowls: Leg Break

Khan is a compulsive stroke-maker, with barely a defensive bone in his body. His aggressive approach to batting certainly gets Pakistan a lot of runs, but quite as often proves his undoing.

He seems to get out in innocuous ways, playing a lazy shot when he should put his head down and get a big score. He also bowls something that is probably supposed to be leg-spin.

He made his international debut against Sri Lanka in 1999-00, when he scored 46, and since has progressed remarkably.

His progress can be seen by the fact that 12 of his20 half-centuries came in 2002 in a year in which he passed 1,000 runs.

Strengths: Fast scorer

Weaknesses: Vulnerable away from his body
