In a statement here, Manipur Forward Youth Front (MFYF) president Sapamcha Kangleipal alleged that a number of innocent people were killed or subjected to atrocities at the hands of the central forces under the present regime of Congress and CPI in the state in recent months.

The Congress-led Secular Progressive Front (SPF) ministry had never attempted to prevent the killings of innocent youths in alleged fake encounters by central forces in recent times, he said asked how voters could elect these candidates in such circumstances.

Kangleipal said the SPF government had never tried to withdraw the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, now in force, which he claimed were being 'misused' in the name of searching insurgents.

He said supporting these candidates would mean encouraging atrocities in the state.
