Youth Congress activists caned

CITY YOUTH Congress activists were caned while they were entering Nagar Nigam premises to gherao the municipal commissioner here on Thursday. They were protesting against poor civic conditions in Colenlganj ward.

City president Vijay Kumar Singh said in a press release that Civil Lines police inspector stopped him and others from entering the NN premises and attacked them with lathis. This damaged half a dozen vehicles at the main gate.

However, later they were allowed to go to the municipal commissioner office where they handed over a five-point memorandum to deputy municipal commissioner G N Shukla related to civic problems.

Singh warned if their demands were not accepted, they would lock up the offices . He said the workers would meet the IG regarding misbehavior of Civil Lines inspector who was working more like a Samajwadi Party worker.

Kalam Khan said there were no streetlight working in the area while poor sanitation prevailed in the area even though Durga Puja was approaching fast.

Others who joined the delegation included Chandrabhan Goswami, Mangala Srivastava, Raju Chaudhry, Rajaram Pandey and Harshbhan Goswami.
