Zaheer Khan has been declared fit for selection for the rest of the matches of the Asia Cup. Zaheer, who was injured while fielding during the India-Sri Lanka match in Sri Lanka, was declared fit by physio Andrew Leipus at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground.

Zaheer had pulled up suddenly while sprinting after a ball and that, combined with the wet underfoot conditions, had resulted in the injury.

"Zaheer is fit for selection," Leipus told waiting journalists. "He has done everything we asked of him during the fitness test, and he has passed. He bowled six overs on the trot today and is feeling no discomfort."

Leipus was emphatic in saying that this injury had nothing to do with the previous ones that have been plaguing the medium-pacer.

"This is a freak injury. We were not expecting it, and Zaheer certainly wasn't." Leipus described the injury as more of a dysfunction in the lower pelvic region above Zaheer's left leg.

The physio went on to say that Zaheer was in possibly his best shape for a while. Zaheer himself was eager to put it behind him.

"I am not fully relieved. I will have to work hard and make sure that I do not break down like this during matches. This injury has nothing to do with my previous problems and came rather unexpectedly. More than physically, it had affected me mentally,” Zaheer said.

“I was quite upset about it and want to get over it. And I’d like to clarify that this is completely new."
