A 39-year-old woman was admitted to Bombay Hospital after she was tested positive for swine flu (H1N1) on Tuesday. This incidentally is the first positive case of swine flu in Indore.
The department for integrated disease surveillance had sent three samples to the lab for swine flu tests, out of these only one came out to be positive.
A resident of Chavani, a residential area in the city, attendants of the patient said that she started showing symptoms of pneumonia on her return from a religious trip. The patient had reportedly gone on a visit to Nasik, with her family wherein she started developing cough and cold.
Her tests were done for diagnosis, in which it was found that she had hints of pneumonia but no clarity on the matter could be ascertained. She was then finally taken for a swine flu test.
It is being sighted by health officials, that she perhaps contracted the disease in Nasik. “This is the first case of the year and we are keeping a check on all possibilities,” said Dr GL Sodhi, in-charge of Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP).
Though her condition remains to be critical, the only good news appears to be that nobody from the family contracted the disease. However, last year, the number of cases, which were tested positive was 10, out of these six deaths were reported. Also, 53 cases were tested negative.
