The incident occurred at 9:30 pm on Thursday when about 40 cattle were being carted to a ‘goshala’ at Gandhi Nagar on Aerodrome Road in two large and two small trucks, municipal officials said.

Deputy municipal commissioner MPS Arora, who reached the site shortly after the incident, said, quoting the truck driver, that the miscreants pelted stones at the vehicles before freeing the cattle.

Arora then approached the Aerodrome Road police station to lodge a complaint. "We will file an FIR based on the Corporation’s complaint," said town inspector Kanhaiyalal Dangi.

The unknown attackers damaged the windshields of three trucks by pelting stones at the vehicles. "They also set fire to a truck as a result of which the tyres and some parts of the vehicle’s body were burnt," Arora told HT.

In response to a question Arora said that 14 cattle each were being carried in the large ten-wheeled trucks, while eight animals were herded into the smaller vehicles.

TI Dangi said he could not immediately say under what sections the attackers would be booked. "I can say anything about that only after the complaint filing is complete," he said.
