Indore: More than 2,000 BJP workers to attend state-level meet

About 2,400 local BJP workers and leaders will leave for Bhopal this week to attend the state-level party convention, to be addressed by party president Amit Shah, in view of the forthcoming municipal elections.

About 2,400 local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers and leaders will leave for Bhopal this week to attend the state-level party convention, to be addressed by the party president Amit Shah, in view of the forthcoming municipal elections.

The convention is aimed to mobilise grassroots level workers of the party for the municipal polls. Those who have been invited to attend the convention include polling booth level committee presidents, patrons and mandal (zonal) presidents and vice-presidents.

The two-day convention will conclude on October 31, which happens to be the day when the high court will be hearing a matter related to the Indore municipal wards, which at present has 69 wards. The court hearing will decide whether the municipal elections will be held in 69 or 85 municipal wards.

In case, the court directs that the city should go to polls with 69 wards, the reservation process of municipal wards and for the mayoral candidate may be held afresh.

Similarly, they have disliked the proposal that Bhopal mayor Krishna Gaur, daughter-in-law of state home minister Babulal Gaur, should contest the mayoral election.

"Why should she contest from Indore? We have good OBC women candidates other than Malini Gaud and Krishna Gaur," said a BJP Mahila Morcha office-bearer wishing anonymity.
