Hearing a writ petition filed by two public service aspirants challenging the preliminary exam held by the commission in 2013, the Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court on Monday served notice to the commission to file a reply in this regard.

The petitioners have challenged the exam on the contention that the answers uploaded by the commission had four mistakes, apart from the 16 questions, which the commission decided to omit and declared merit.

To a question 'Simhastha (Mahakumbh festival) takes place once in — years, the commission marked '6 years' as the correct option, whereas the answer should be once in 12 years, pointed the petitioner.

Similarly, the commission marked the weight of cricket ball as 149-153 grams as the correct answer, whereas the correct option should have been between 159.9-163 grams.

According to answers uploaded by the commission, a question 'any offence under Civil Rights Protection Act 1955' will attract imprisonment or fine or both, whereas the answer should have been 'Cognizable', said the petitioner's advocate Pawan Joshi.

Earlier, after a series of protests by hundreds of aspirants and the court's intervention, the commission decided to scrap all 16 wrongly answered questions asked in the preliminary exam conducted on July 27, 2013 and select aspirants on the basis of marks obtained out of 184 questions instead of 200.

The MPPSC preliminary exam for recruitment to various state services was held on July 27 for filling nearly 800 vacant posts. Over four lakh candidates took the exam.
