Perin Daji seeks public support for Hukumchand Mills ex-staff's dues

Perin Daji, wife of communist leader and former MP late Homi Daji, has appealed to residents, MLAs, MPs, political parties to unite and ensure that former workers of Hukumchand Mills get their dues.

Octogenarian Perin Daji, wife of prominent communist leader and former MP late Homi Daji, has appealed to residents, MLAs, MPs, political parties, social organisations to unite and ensure that over 5,000 former workers of Hukumchand Mills get their dues worth Rs 229 crore.

Daji, 83, made a written appeal to Indore's residents on Friday, the day which marked 24th year of closure of Hukumchand (textile) Mills. "The ex-workers are struggling for the past 24 years to get their money," she said, adding that PM Narendra Modi's move to introduce labour reforms will be of little use unless former workers get their money.

"PM talks of interest of labourers and workers. But he doesn't talk about the right of former workers of closed mills," she said in the written appeal. She referred to trade union leaders' meeting with CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan during his visit to city for Global Investors' Summit.

"He first gave assurance and later said he cannot help as the matter is sub judice. Indore MP Sumitra Mahajan gave assurance but did nothing," Daji said as she appealed to city residents to unite for help.
