Though clichéd, the saying “perseverance can make miracles happen” still stands true. A video of a young martial art student struggling to break a wooden plank proves the age-old proverb. Named Phoenix, the kid was going through his belt test and was supposed to kick a wooden board in half. Despite failing repeatedly, he refused to give up, and finally succeeded.

This event was recorded during Pheonix’s belt exam at Bobby Dixon’s American Martial Arts Academy. The academy shared the video on their official Facebook page along with a caption narrating the entire incident. It says that breaking a board was not part of the little kid’s test but he wanted to give it a go. Sadly, failing to break it would also mean he would fail the test.

During his initial attempt, Pheonix remained unsuccessful in breaking the plank even after multiple tries. So, the examiners decided to give him some rest. After all the other students finished their tests, Pheonix was given another chance. This is when the video was recorded.

In the video, Phoenix can be seen attempting to break the plank by kicking it. After failing a few times, he starts crying and is even reluctant to continue. However, he regains his determination when his classmates start cheering for him. His resolve clubbed with support from fellow students finally pushes Pheonix to reach the goal and break the plank.

His mother, Claudia Swonger, also shared the clip on Facebook along with a heartening caption that reads, “My boy learned one of the most important lessons in his life today! NEVER...EVER GIVE UP!!!”

Isn’t the video heartwarming? Posted on May 3, the video has gathered more than 22 million views and over 449,000 shares. It won’t be wrong to say that the boy’s struggle and eventual success has won the hearts of netizens. Here are some of the comments:
