A Rajasthan administrative service (RAS) officer, who was accused in the Neha murder case, was sent to a three-day police custodyon Monday.
The police had arrested Pradeep Balach on Sunday and he was produced before the court of a chief judicial magistrate, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Neeraj Pathak said.
Pathak said that the police demanded Balach’s custody as investigation in the case is still pending. He also added that police have seized his official vehicle in which he was travelling at the time of the incident. According to Pathak, the police are yet to recover Balach’s clothes, mobile phone and other belongings related to the investigation.
Pathak said that during interrogation on Sunday, the accused confessed to have killed his wife Neha Balach for dowry on the intervening night of April 19 and 20. Balach said that he first murdered Neha and later tried to cover it up as an accident, the DSP said.
Four days later when the victim’s parents filed a dowry killing case, the police swung into action and arrested Balach. He was arrested under the section of IPC 302, 498 (A) and other.
However, media reports claimed that the accused had extra marital affair with a woman RAS officer. Pathak said investigation is on and they are procuring the call records of the accused and on the basis of which the police will carry the investigation forward.
