A decent Indianmade shampoo is probably good enougCity’s canine companions barking up the brand treeh for us normal residents of the city but, for six-month-old Jojo, only a 100% natural, coconut surfactant shower gel from the US makes the grade.
You might still be trying for that all-important scholarship to ease your path to an overseas education, but threeyear-old Zenzy has already travelled more than half the world, winning hordes of prizes in the bargain.
You might even be having a tough time sharing a 2BHK flat with the rest of your family, but year-old Nicola has an air-conditioned bedroom all to herself.
And here’s the punch line — all these fortunate souls belong to different breeds of the canine clan that strutted their stuff at The Calcutta Kennel Club dog show over the weekend.
“Nicola is bathed with a herbal shampoo made of natural oil, honey and yoghurt. That’s the secret behind her brilliantly clean and shiny coat,” Reshmi Agarwal, the golden retriever’s owner, told
HindustanTimes. Agarwal’s pets even have their own rooms at her Salt Lake home.
Assam-based Maithili Rao and Ranjit Menon, who adopted Kertesi Barsony Zenzy (a Saint Bernard) a few years ago from the US, told a similar tale of puppy love. Zenzy, who is already a champion in Serbia, Romania, Hungary and the US, padded off with a couple of trophies here in Kolkata, too, after he set the catwalk of fire with his confident strides and killer moves.
“We employ four care-givers for Zenzy. They look after his health, behaviour and overall well-being round the clock. Besides, Ranjit and I want to make sure that he’s being properly trained and groomed and, therefore, don’t mind paying R25,000 a month to the care-givers,” Maithili, who flew down from Assam just so Zenzy could participate in the show, said.
“What he does is very similar to the work of professional models who walk the ramp. He’s been performing brilliantly both nationally and internationally. So, we need to be more focused to ensure a perfect upbringing for him,” she added.
Jojo, Nicola and Zenzy’s owners order foreign fur butters, dog shampoos, conditioners, toothbrushes, body sprays, feeding bottles, caps, socks and even shoes thrice, or more, in a year for their pets.
