State chief secretary Asok Mohan Chakraborty said all non-government offices and educational institutions had been requested to declare a holiday tomorrow. However, the holiday has not been declared under the NI Act, he clarified.

Chakraborty said a two-day state mourning would be observed from tomorrow all over West Bengal during which the national flag would fly at half-mast atop all government offices and establishments.

To a question, the chief secretary said the state government would accord honours to the departed leader befitting a state funeral during the last journey.

State Health Minister Suryakanta Mishra has been entrusted with supervising the government arrangement till Basu's last journey.

The chief secretary earlier held a meeting with the health minister, Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen, DGP Bhupinder Singh, city Police Commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakraborty and Under-secretary (Home) Tanmoy Chakraborty among senior officials.
