The police said a section of the crowed initiated the problem by hurling bricks at them.

The uproar began after the Mamata started delivering her speech. According to the police, a section of the crowd tried to come too close to the stage, which the police resisted. The crowd became agitated and started pelting bricks at them.

The police had to resort to a mild lathicharge to quell them. The situation turned so grave that Banerjee had to stop her speech and stepped down from the dais. She finally rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
