Schwab meets West Bengal CM

Chief US Trade Negotiator, Susan Schwab, who met the chief minister at the Writers' Buildings on Saturday, said that she visited the state on the advice of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. "The Prime Minister said that West Bengal was a success in implementing the state government policies. I came here to meet real people," she said.
In a reply to a question, Schwab said that she did not discus any specific US investment proposals with the CM. "We discussed how you can achieve a level playing field for India and other developing countries and how you can create a win-win situation for India and US in agriculture, manufacturing and the service sector," she added.
Stating that Indian mangoes would hit the US market in a few weeks time, she said that Bhattacharjee is hopeful that mangoes from West Bengal would be highly popular in the US.
Earlier, Schwab visited Fritto Lay company saying that it gave her an opportunity to know about contractual farming and the challenges of subsistence farming.
On asked, if she had invited the CM to visit US, she did not give a direct reply. "There will be many in my country, who would be eager to know how he had balanced development with his (left) political ideology."
