'Surjeet's death a huge loss to communist movement'

Left leaders in West Bengal deeply mourned the death of Harkishan Singh Surjeet, saying that his passing away was a huge loss to the communist movement in the country.

Left leaders in West Bengal on Friday deeply mourned the death of former CPI-M general secretary Harkishan Singh Surjeet, saying that his passing away was a huge loss to the communist movement in the country.

Condoling his death, state CPI-M secretary Biman Bose said that the party under Surjeet's leadership had got pan-India acceptability.

"Comrade Surjeet maintained excellent relation with opposition parties within the ideological framework of the party," Bose said.

He said that Surjeet had excellent rapport with veteran CPI-M leader Jyoti Basu and the late state secretary of the party Pramode Dasgupta.

CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta said "He was a pragmatic and visionary leader. He did his best to advance the Left and Communist movement.
