"Law and order is worsening in West Bengal. Killings have become a daily phenomenon. But who is responsible for such a state of affairs?" Mukherjee said when reporters sought his comment on the firing by suspected CPI(M) cadres in Lalgarh which had left eight dead and over a dozen injured.
Mukherjee said WBPCC president Manas Bhuina had visited those injured in the firing. On the killing of a Congress worker at Basanti in South 24-Parganas district during the day, he said such incidents were taking place daily. Union Law and Justice Minister Verappa Moily also said that the situation in the state was a cause of concern.
