CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Sunday lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for putting the blame on the Congress for his failures.
Addressing a joint public rally of left parties in Haryana’s Jind, Yechury questioned Modi about why farmers were forced to commit suicide “in large numbers” in his tenure as Prime Minister.
“It has become the PM’s habit to put all the blame for the lamentable state of the country at the doorsteps of the Congress. But the people had amply punished the Congress for its non-performance by voting it out in last parliamentary elections. Five years into his term, Modi can’t get away by hiding behind his predecessors now,” he said.
The CPI(M) leader alleged that all the national assets in the country were being privatised and handed over to Modi’s corporate friends. “It is because of this that 73% of national wealth today is controlled by 1% of people while large sections of the population are languishing in abject poverty despite no dearth of resources in the country,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}Yechury also slammed the BJP for trying to draw political mileage out of airstrikes in Balakot after the terror strike in Pulwama. He asked Modi and his party not to consider themselves synonymous with the nation.
He also described Modi’s ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign as fake. “The people are the real masters of the chowkidar and are duty bound to replace him if he does not deliver,” he said. CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy and CPI (M) leader Nilotpal Basu also spoke on the occasion.
