A case of criminal breach of trust was lodged against jailed former UP minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati on Tuesday.

A SP leader from Meerut, Rakesh Prajapati, has accused the former minister of taking Rs 6 lakh from him on the pretext of assuring a government job for his cousin.

Rakesh Prajapati told HT over phone that he had given the money to the former minister on July 15, 2015 when the latter assured him of providing job of lekhpal to his cousin Adesh Kumar.

He said he handed over the money to the former minister at his official residence in Lucknow’s Gautampalli area. The former minister, however, failed to fulfil his promise and did not return the money either, Rakesh Prajapati added.

The complainant said Gayatri Prajapati kept on delaying the matter despite repeated requests.

He claimed to have met Gayatri on January 17 last but the latter manhandled him and threatened with dire consequences.

“When I reached the then minister to ask him to return the money, he misbehaved and refused to give back the amount”, the complainant alleged.

He said he then approached the cops at Gautampalli police station but his complaint was not lodged. The FIR was lodged when he again contacted the cops on Monday.

Inspector Ashutosh Tiwari said the FIR was lodged under IPC sections 406 for criminal breach of trust, 323 for voluntarily causing hurt, 504 for insulting and 506 for criminal intimidation.

Gayatri Prajapati was arrested on March 15 after being on the run for nearly a month on rape charges.

The 49-year-old Samajwadi Party leader is in judicial custody. Six persons named in the rape FIR against the SP leader have also been arrested.

A 42-year-old woman from Chitrakoot had accused Prajapati of gangraping her and attempting to rape her minor daughter. She alleged she was raped when she met the former minister in 2014.

Prajapati, considered close to SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, enjoyed immense political clout during the SP government. In 2017 assembly elections, Prajapati lost from Amethi to the BJP.
