Though family members of Class 8 student, Aditya Vardhan Singh, 14 claimed that the ‘Blue Whale’ challenge was behind his suicide, the city police so far had not found any evidence to ascertain he played the game.
The boy’s body was found hanging from the ceiling fan of a room at his residence in B-Block, Indira Nagar under Ghazipur police area on Thursday. His kin stated that Aditya had been playing some game on his cell phone for the last two weeks and was visibly tense, said police.
Om Prakash Tewari, senior sub-inspector (SSI) of Ghazipur police station, said the family claimed that the victim was playing the game but the police had not found any other injury marks on his body.
He said generally those playing the ‘deadly game’ also inflicted injuries on their body to clear different challenges given by the game administrator.
The SSI said the victim’s family had not allowed post-mortem examination of the body, but initial examination suggested that there were only ligature marks around the boy’s neck, which suggested he hanged himself.
Tewari said the family members stated that Aditya played the game on his mother’s cell phone but it was not handed it over to the police. The ‘deadly game theory’ was only as per the statement of the victim’s family members and relatives, he added.

The curator then gives the player a daily task, which culminates on Day 50 with a direction to the player to commit suicide. The player is also asked to share photos after finishing each challenge.
