“A memorial to Babasaheb must come up at the Ambedkar Mahasabha. I will take up the issue with the chief minister (Yogi Adityanath),” said Singh, while addressing a gathering at the Ambedkar Mahasabha.

“We have to do a lot for the Dalit community as they have suffered a lot,” he said.

Listing projects executed by the Modi government for the Dalit community, he said, “All places associated with Babasaheb across the country and abroad have been developed by the BJP government.”

The union home minister said: “People are not aware of Babasaheb’s views. He always stressed on social harmony between all castes.”

“Babasaheb was not solely concerned about welfare of the Dalits, but about the welfare of all communities,” he added. The union home minister said Ambedkar was acceptable to all communities.

Earlier, Ambedkar Mahasabha chairman Lalji Nirmal raised the issue of a memorial on the Ambedkar Mahasabha campus.

Nirmal’s proposal was readily accepted by the union home minister. Singh also paid floral tributes. Former DGP Brij Lal, who is chairman of the SC/ST commission chairman, was also present among others.
