Mafia-turned politician Mukhtar Ansari has been shifted from Ghazipur jail to Mathura prison after a raid by a Special Task Force led to the recovery of certain items from his cell, officials said on Thursday.

Independent MLA from Mau, Ansari, who was lodged in Ghazipur jail was shifted to Mathura prison last night on the recommendation of the authorities concerned following STF raid in the jail yesterday, they said.

Objectionable items, including LPG cylinder, gas stove and cooler were recovered from Ansari's cell during the STF raid, they said.

Ghazipur District Magistrate will probe as to how these items reached inside the jail, they said.
