Students of several universities in the state, including Lucknow, can soon hope to learn their classroom lessons on the lines of the prestigious Cambridge University of England.
In days to come, professors and researchers of the English university would collaborate with their counterparts in Uttar Pradesh and help develop better pedagogy to be imbibed in curriculum.
Devesh Chaturvedi, secretary for higher education, UP, who has just returned after attending a two-day workshop (August 29-30) at the Cambridge University, told HT, “The professors there were keen to get into collaborative work with all the government-funded varsities. They want to focus on capacity building of the state university teachers.”
They have the most advanced pedagogy and our students would benefit to a great extent from it, he added.
The proposed collaboration is the outcome of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s letter written to Cambridge in the regard.
According to Chaturvedi, his meeting in England was extremely fruitful and he appeared hopeful the process would expedite in days to come. “The tie-up with Cambridge University would give an international exposure to all the state universities, which would eventually benefit the students,” he added.
As a first step, there would be an exchange programme in which teachers from the foreign university would come to UP universities and interact with the educators here. “Our teachers would also go there. It would be a continuous process,” Chaturvedi told HT.

{{/usCountry}}Meanwhile, the Cambridge professors, who had visited Allahabad during Kumbh in January, shared their findings with the IAS officer.
As part of the study -Mapping the Kumbh Mela - the researchers are documenting and analysing the processes involved in making Kumbh Mela arguably the largest human gathering in the world.
The experts appeared impressed with the arrangements and recommended setting up of the Management Information System in a much bigger way to help manage the crowd.
The experts also expressed satisfaction with the fact that despite a sea of around 8-10 crore people thronging the Sangam City for 55 days, no incidence of any water-borne disease or epidemic was reported.
