A woman threw boiling water on her husband on Friday after he repeatedly refused to shave off his beard. The victim, Salman Khan, 32, received burn injuries and had to be admitted to the hospital.

Police said the couple often argued over Salman’s refusal to shave off his beard on religious grounds. This angered his wife Naghma who wanted him to be clean shaven and dress up in western clothes. Station officer, Kawarasi, Shri Prakash Yadav said, “A case of attempt to murder has been registered against Naghma on the basis of Salman’s complaint. We are further probing the matter.”

Salman is a vegetable vendor and lives in a rented accommodation in Sasni Gate area.

The couple got married in December 2016 and since then often fought over how he should dress and maintain his physical appearance. Salman told police he had always kept a beard and prayed fives times a day. However, after marriage, his wife suddenly took exception to his physical appearance.
