The chief minister along with other ministers refused to comment on the programme, saying it was an annual affair.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath along with many of his cabinet colleagues participated in Guru Dakshina programme of Rashhtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) held at Saraswati Shishu Mandir on Sunday.

His ministers including Asutosh Tandon, Brajesh Pathak, Mahendra Singh, MLAs Pankaj Singh and Neeeraj Bora accompanied him. BJP leaders like Shailesh Singh Shailu, Amit Puri and Prashant Singh Atal were also present on the occasion.

After saluting the saffron flag as soon as they arrived there, they offered an unspecified amount of cash in a sealed envelope as ‘Guru Dakshina’ (something offered to a teacher from a student).

According to the RSS volunteers, it was an annual programme to collect funds for the yearlong as the RSS did not take funds from anyone once the month of ‘Guru Dakshina’ was over.

However, the media was strictly kept away from the function at Nirala Nagar Shishu Mandir where Sah Sar Karyavah V Bhaigaih, known for his oratory skills, spoke on importance of ‘Guru Dakshina’.

He said that RSS was a quality man-making machine. An RSS worker was most organised and disciplined, he added. He called on the RSS cadres to show perfection in whatever work they were doing.

Bhaigaih also said an RSS volunteer believed in the service to humanity. The governments will come and go but the principals of RSS will remain the same.

The Sanghchalak of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Prabhu Narain Srivastava, was also present on the occasion. He said the RSS didn’t collect money for any lavish things but for service of human beings.

After attending the ceremony, however the chief minister along with other ministers refused to comment on the programme, saying it was an annual affair.

However, the RSS volunteers say that they don’t consider any person as guru and that is why they bow and pay obeisance to the saffron flag-- a living guru for them. The RSS does not collect donations from outsiders.
