Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. If you have a partner but can’t stand the day, it may be because you are tired of the cliched dinner-and-a-date routine. This year, do something different. Trust us, it will be way more memorable.

Here are some ideas for you:

* Make a DIY gift

Take some inspiration from Pinterest and gift your loved one a unique DIY gift. They will cherish it for longer. It could be a framed handmade V-Day card, a scrapbook with your photos and letters, or post-its filled in a jar listing 100 reasons why you love them. Go creative and make artistic origami flowers or light up your home with fairy lights in recycled bottles as an alternative to the usual and roses and candlelight dinner routine.

Take a road trip to explore a place that you have always wanted to visit. (Shutterstock)

* Go for an adventure.

If your love life is getting pretty routine, this may help you add some spice to it. Instead of having a romantic dinner, why not do something together that will give you an adrenaline rush. You can go hiking, scuba diving or bungee jumping, or take a road trip to explore a place that you have always wanted to visit. You can even head to an escape room in your city where you can solve mysteries, escape a chamber of horrors or defuse a bomb. After all, what signals romance better than being stuck in a room together surrounded by danger?

* Recreate your first date.

First dates may be awkward but they can be incredibly special. Go in rewind mode and recreate the scene of your first date. Take your partner to the place — bar, eatery, home, park, cinema theatre— or add elements from that date. You can cook a preparation that you tried on your first date, or rent the same movie you watched on your first date.

Relax over a couple’s massage with your partner. (Shutterstock)

* Take a staycation.

A staycation is the middle path between a full-fledged vacation, and a traditional dinner-and-movie date. It allows you privacy (you are not home and no one needs to know where you are) and saves you precious time and money since you are not heading out of town. Use this opportunity to learn more about your partner, enjoy some carefree moments and relax over a couple’s massage. It will do wonders for your love life.

Enjoy some couple time while you accomplish your fitness goals. (Shutterstock)

*Get physical.

No, we aren’t talking of action between the sheets here, though that is welcome as well. This V-Day, enjoy some couple’s time and do something fun — learn a new dance or exercise routine, go running, sign up for a kickboxing session or try Krav Maga. It will challenge you, give you something to do together, and bring you closer and of course, make you a fitter couple.
