An official from the Thane division of the department said Punjalal Patel, 50, and Bipin Shah,50, both Mumbai residents, used to illegally supply high-end scotch and whisky to their regular customers.

An official said they got a tip-off about Patel selling scotch and other high-end brands of whisky in Khar. “We formed a team and raided one place in Khar, where we found 20 illegal bottles of whisky and nabbed Patel. He told us about his aide Shah, who has a shop in Andheri,” said a official from the Thane division.

Shah’s shop in Andheri was raided the same day and altogether 1,800 liquor bottles were seized. A case has been registered with the excise department and further probe is on.
