The Wadala TT police arrested a 31-year-old man for allegedly stabbing an Antop Hill resident to death during the early hours of Monday. According to the police, the 24-year-old victim had attacked the accused, Irfan Kazia Shaikh, for allegedly stalking the former’s wife and harassing her.
When the victim’s wife would step out to run errands, Shaikh would often stalk and harass her. On Friday, the woman told her husband about Shaikh’s actions.
According to the police, when the woman’s husband learnt about Shaikh’s behaviour, he began looking for the accused in the area.
On Sunday, late at night, when the victim spotted Shaikh near a public toilet in neighbourhood, he confronted Shaikh about the allegations made by his wife.
According to the police, the duo entered into a heated argument and the victim assaulted Shaikh.
However, Shaikh removed a knife from his pocket and stabbed the man repeatedly until the latter fell on the ground. Shaikh fled the spot, while some locals informed the victim’s brother about the incident.
The victim’s brother then rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The victim’s family also approached the police to lodge a complaint.
Wadala TT police officers traced Shaikh within an hour after the complaint was registered and arrested him from the area.
“We had received information that Shaikh had been hiding at his friend’s house in the same area. We located him in an hour and arrested him for murder,” said an officer from Wadala TT police station.
According to police, Shaikh has several cases of theft against him and the locals in the area feared him.
