A Class 7 girl was found dead in the bathroom of a government school in Jawhar on Friday.
The Jawhar police have registered a case of accidental death and have also recovered a suicide note.
“The school is run under the Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) Jawhar. The victim, 13-year-old Sumitra Shivram Hirkuda had gone to visit her parents on January 21,” said police inspector P D Bhoye of Jawhar police station.
However, she returned to school on 26 January and told her classmate that she was going to the bathroom to wash her clothes, said Bhoye.
“When Sumitra did not return hours later, her friend went back to the bathroom to look for her. She found the door locked from inside, so she peeped from the window and found Sumitra hanging from the ceiling using a nylon rope. She alerted the school authorities, who then informed us,” said police.
The girl’s body has been sent for post-mortem, and the report confirmed death by hanging, said police.
“We are probing the case and have found a suicide note. The motive is not known, but it is presumed that a family issue could be the reason. We have sent the note for forensic analysis,” said Bhoye.
