Housewife’s body exhumed: Mumbai cops await autopsy report
Chunabhatti police took the decision after receiving a tip-off that the woman was beaten by her relatives, who then buried her in a hurry after she succumbed to her injuries while recuperating
Police officers probing the mysterious death of a 46-year-old housewife, whose body was exhumed from a burial ground in Kurla, are now relying on the chemical analysis reports to exact the cause of her death. The woman’s preserved viscera was recently sent for analysis to JJ Hospital. The body was exhumed in the presence of Mulund tehsildar.

The Chunabhatti police took the decision to exhume the body and sent it for autopsy after receiving a tip-off that the woman was beaten by her relatives, who then buried her in a hurry to cover up their act after she succumbed to her injuries while recuperating. Julekha Rehmatulla Khan, a resident of Gaffar Seth chawl at Qureshi Nagar in Kurla (West), was rushed by her neighbour to a local clinic on September 11. The doctor she was being treated by holds a Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (B.A.M.S.) degree, the police said.
Cops claimed despite her serious condition, the doctor neither informed the police nor did he advice her family members to shift her to a better-equipped medical facility. He allegedly did not even recommend a post-mortem and issued a death certificate ascertaining cardio-respiratory failure as the cause of her death, following which she was buried on the morning of September 10 .
“The viscera was sent for chemical analysis. Based on the autopsy report, which will ascertain the cause of death, we will decide the further course of action,” said a police officer.
