In pics: Eman Ahmed, ‘world’s heaviest woman’, slimmer and smiling after losing 250 kg

When Egyptian woman Eman Ahmed came to a hospital in Mumbai two months ago, she weighed 504kg. She now weighs 242kg and can fit into a wheelchair

Egyptian woman Eman Ahmed, who came to Mumbai’s Saifee Hospital for treatment, is 250kg lighter and happier. Wonder how the woman, who was once the heaviest in the world at 504kg, looks after the transformation? Here’s a glimpse:

The images, shot on April 18, show 242-kg Eman Ahmed sitting in a wheelchair for a long period of time, something that was impossible for her three months ago, say doctors.

Eman underwent a bariatric surgery on March 7. Dr Muffazal Lakdawala, who operated on her, said she has lost approximately half her weight within two months of coming to India.

Although the treatment will continue, Eman has now been shifted out of the room specially designed for her onto a normal hospital bed.

Eman had suffered a stroke three years ago which left her right side paralysed. She suffers occasional seizures and is unable to swallow liquids or speak properly.

“We will get a CT scan of her brain done as soon as she fits into the machine. The scan will help us understand her neurological status,” said Dr Lakdawala.

After six months, she will be put on a trial drug for her monogenic obesity. Doctors said they are trying to get the drug from a pharma company in the US.

She may or may or may not need a second stage bariatric surgery after two years, doctors said.

For now the entire focus of the doctors is on neurological rehabilitation.

“She hasn’t walked. The stroke left her bound to the bed. Our team of physiotherapists and occupational therapists are trying to mobilise her. We hope to see her walk someday, although we can’t determine the exact timeframe yet,” said Dr Lakdawala
