MumbaiThe Andheri police is on the lookout for a cyber fraudster who allegedly duped an elderly couple of ₹1.26 lakh and later created a fake profile on a social networking site with the man’s mobile number on it, asking people to call for sex chats. The 60-year-old man received incessant phone calls from men asking for sex chats.The social media profile had pictures of women in it.The fraudster had earlier duped the elderly couple of ₹1.26 lakh. When the duo said they would approach the police, the fraudster created the fake social media profile.According to Andheri police, the elderly man’s wife, 58, is the complainant is the case and runs a business. The couple live in a housing society in Andheri.The elderly woman had received a friend request from the accused on the social media site in 2017. She accepted the friend request and the duo had spoken about a business deal.The accused, claiming to be a financial advisor, duped the elderly duo around May this year of ₹1.26 lakh on the pretext of investing their money in insurance and mutual funds. After a few months, when the duo cross-checked with the insurance company, they learnt that the accused had never invested their money anywhere.The elderly duo then asked the accused to return their money, failing which they said they would approach the police. The accused created the social media profile on July 12 with photos of women in it. He gave the mobile number of complainant’s husband saying anyone can call on it for sex chats. The senior citizen received several phone calls from men and one of the callers informed him about the social media profile. The couple approached the Andheri police last week and lodged a first information report (FIR) against the accused. The police said the probe is on.
